The way completed my capstone project was that I had to communicate with my mentor, the secretary for Kiwanis international and my partner who also helped me complete this project. The way we maintained a tight schedule was that we have weekly conference calls to check on each others progress and to add some additional jobs for the week. We always had to be on the same page  on who what doing what and when they were supposed to do it that way everybody knew what to do on the day of the concert. We also had to think creatively by making carnival games for children. This   specific task took some time because everybody had their own ideas. Collaboration was a big deal during our journey. We had to make sure everything was in order so everything would go smoothly.

The things I gained during my project were things that would help in the future. One thing I gained was the ability to speak up because during our conference calls and meeting I noticed things that my mentor did not and I didn't speak up it would have cost a lot time trying to fix it. A second thing I gained was the ability to speak in front of a large group because in the past I able do so. An example would be when i had to speak in front of the entire faculty and explain my project even though I only had to speak from two minutes. I also learned that when you have to many things to at one time its ok to ask for help. I finally understood what Down syndrome is and how its changed in the past twenty years.

There were many challenges during this process and each one was different every time. One challenge I faced was traveling. This was a challenge because even though I go to school at South San Francisco High School I also live in Richmond on the weekends so when my mentor needed me to do things in South San Francisco I had to ride multiple trains and buses to go and do my job and then come back to Richmond. The way I fixed this problem was that I stayed with my mom until I finished my job and then went home to Richmond or just stayed with her until the next day. A second challenge for me was coming up with carnival games and getting them approved not just by mentor but by Kiwanis because they were sponsoring the event and were liable for injuries that occurred during the concert or the carnival. The way I fixed this problem was by tweaking the measurements for some the games and making them more safer for children.

This project helped me in several ways from speaking in public to enabling me to speak my mine. There were several things this project helped me learn. One thing was that just because a child is born Down syndrome it doesn't me that child can't live a happy and normal life. It helped me understand the overall genetics of Down syndrome and how occurs and how everybody can have it no matter of race or gender. This project also helped to manage time properly and maintain a proper schedule for future projects of this magnitude. In the end this is one project that will always make grateful of what I have and it makes me proud to have been a huge part of it.

On March 22, 2014 I spent 8 hours working from 8 am to 3 pm.  On this day I finally completed the signing  time preparations  and I finally completed  the concert.  On that day I watched over the carnival I also helped set up in the morning by helping set up the carnival by bringing in toys,  assigning roles and making signs

On Saturday,  March 15 I spent 5 hours going to store's at the Hilltop mall and in the plaza and asking If I could put up fliers and explaining the event.
On Sunday, March 16 I spent and hour talking to my mentor going over the carnival and the rest of the event because it's the final week.
On Friday March 14 I spent 4 hours going to bakeries in the Bay Area and asking for donations for the VIP who get to meet Rachel Coleman.

On Sunday March 9 I spent 2 hours discussing about the concert. We discussed about the bounce house, silent auction and the carnival.  We also discussed about the cooperation of the other key clubs in the district and how they could help by being supervisors for the bounce house and carnival games.
On Friday March 7 I spent 3 hours going to schools in Richmond and explaining to them about the concert and if I could put some fliers on they're bulletin board.

On Saturday February 22 I spent an hour discussing what things we would want for the silent auction like gifts cards and guitar lessons with my mentor. We also discussed new jobs for the Key Club members.
On Thursday February 20 I spent an hour discussing with Key Club of what their roles will be at the concert. It could be ushering people to their seats, selling carnival tickets or monitoring carnival games.
On Wednesday February 19 I spent 45 min discussing more ideas with my mentor about the concert and more carnival activities for us to do.

On Monday February 10 I spent 45 mins talking with my mentor about games and other activities for our concert on March 21, 2014. The games we thought of were face painting and ball toss this truly going to be a amazing event.

I just learned sign language by watching the television show Signing Time for two hours.
